Dry Eye Center, Providing Patients From CITY 1, With the TrueTear Solution
Do you suffer from Dry Eye Disease? Do your eyes constantly burn, itch, or sting? If you’ve tried artificial tears or other treatments without relief, it may be time for something new. There’s a new method of tear production that you may not have heard about, and it may just give you the relief you’ve been looking for.
Dry Eye Doctor Name now offers the TrueTear solution for patients experiencing Dry Eye symptoms.
What Is TrueTear?
TrueTear is a device that treats dry eyes by increasing your eye’s natural tear production with electrical pulses. These pulses stimulate tears to form, a process called neurostimulation. TrueTear triggers a nerve inside the nasal cavity, sending a message to the brain to increase tear production in the glands around your eyes.
How To Use TrueTear
Before using TrueTear for the first time, make sure to read the instructions that come with the device and have a mirror in front of you. Use the mirror so that you can see what you’re doing while using the device.
Follow these 3 steps to use TrueTear and enjoy the most optimized results:
- Gently insert the device into your nostrils until the tips reach the inside bridge of your nose
- Tilt it so that the bottom of the device presses against your lips, away from your face
- Hold the device for up to 1 minute or until you feel tears in your eyes
TrueTear can be used twice a day as needed, but always ask Dry Eye Doctor Name about your specific case.
How Does TrueTear Work?
TrueTear uses electrical pulses to stimulate tear production in your eyes. When the device is properly inserted in the nose, you should feel a light pulsing sensation followed by tears pooling in the eyes. The tears won’t fall out of your eyes; they’ll simply coat the surface. Some patients feel as if they’re going to sneeze, while others do sneeze.
If no reaction happens, try inserting TrueTear again at a slightly more horizontal degree until you feel the gentle pulse of the device. Some patients find that it takes them a few tries before they get the angle “just right”.
Is TrueTear Safe?
Yes, the TrueTear system is safe to use. In fact, it’s an FDA-approved medical device for use in adults. Clinical trials were conducted in May 2016 that showed positive outcomes for tear production with TrueTear. Unlike other solutions, it doesn’t contain any prescription drugs or medicated drops.
TrueTear Do’s And Don’ts
DO:
- Turn off the device manually or wait 1 minute and it will turn off by itself
- Charge it when not in use – many patients find it easiest to simply place it on the base after every use
- Replace the disposable tips every 48 hours for most sterile and effective use – not doing so will cause the hydrogel will dry out, resulting in the device not working correctly
- Ensure that you’re in a comfortable space to administer the treatment
DON’T:
- Share TrueTear with someone else
- Place it under running water, as this could damage the device
- Skip intensity levels – go up 1 level at a time to carefully test which one is right for you and causes the desired result
- Administer prescription eye drops or nasal sprays 1/2 hour before or after using TrueTear
- Administer TrueTear while driving or operating machinery
TrueTear Extra Features
There’s an app for that! TrueTear has an iOS app that lets users check the battery power on the device and track usage and intensity levels. At this time, there is no Android app.
Benefits Of TrueTear
With the TrueTear system, patients can control the level of intensity, up to 5 levels. So if you find that a low level doesn’t produce the necessary tears, try a higher level. The device gently vibrates to let you know that the level has either increased or decreased so there’s no guessing games.
The entire process is fast, lasting an average of 130 seconds per day, so it’s simple enough to make it a part of your morning or evening routine.
Going out of town? TrueTear is small enough to fit into a bag, so you can use it on the go. Even while at home, it won’t take up a lot of space on your bathroom counter, dresser, or wherever else you choose to place it.
Limitations Of TrueTear:
Patients must be at least 22 years old to use the TrueTear system. In addition, you must have Dry Eye Syndrome or at least a few of its symptoms in order to benefit from the treatment. So, if your eyes simply feel dry temporarily, it may not be for you, and in these cases, Dry Eye Doctor Name can recommend an alternative course of treatment. Always talk to the doctor about any questions or concerns.
TrueTear isn’t a permanent solution. It’s a non-invasive, non-surgical treatment. The neurostimulation processes increases your eye’s natural tear production, but only temporarily.
Like other medical treatments, there are certain patients with other conditions which may interfere with the treatment.
TrueTear may not be used if:
- You have a cardiac demand pacemaker
- You have an implanted or wearable defibrillator, or other implanted metal device in the head or neck area
- You experience chronic nosebleeds, have a bleeding disorder, or have an allergy to hydrogel
What Are The Side Effects Of TrueTear?
Some patients may experience a few mild side effects, such as nasal pain, some light discomfort, or a burning sensation.
Less common side effects may include:
- Facial or sinus pain
- Feeling light-headed
- Headache
- Nasal congestion
- Nosebleeds
- Runny nose
- Soreness in or around the eye
